You might say Peruda's story started with bad skin - really bad skin.

I'm Monica, founder of Peruda - and this is a story about skin, survival, and starting over.

When nothing worked

It began in 2013, when my skin fell apart almost overnight. Two abscesses, rosacea, adult acne, rashes across my body. I tried everything: luxury creams, drugstore remedies, dermatologist prescriptions. What I got in return were words like chronic, manage it, nothing more we can do. No real answers. No alternative paths.

So I went looking for my own.

The Amazon changed everything

I immersed myself in dermatological and botanical research, exploring natural healing traditions alongside the science of skin health.

That search eventually led me to the Amazon — where I discovered the extraordinary regenerative power of wild endemic botanicals. I started experimenting with my own recipes at home. Almost like magic, my skin began to recover.

Then came cancer

In 2019, life threw another curveball: a stage 3 cancer diagnosis. A year of invasive treatments followed. It saved my life — but left my immune system shattered and my already-sensitive skin very fragile. This time, though, I knew what to do.

When I was well enough, I went back to my formulations and started adapting — building restorative blends designed to support skin in its most compromised state. That work became the foundation of Peruda.

The need is real - and it's vast

5.7 billion people globally self-identify with sensitive skin, while 204 million people suffer from atopic dermatitis — a number growing 12% per decade.

99% of the population are exposed to pollutants that trigger oxidative stress, acne, and hyperpigmentation. And 90% of people undergoing cancer treatment report skin side effects.

The good news is that consumer demands are changing.

According to Mintel's 2025 Global Beauty and Personal Care Trends report, today's consumers are prioritising functional efficacy and ingredient knowledge.

This signals a meaningful shift away from decorative cosmetics towards skincare that actually works.

In 2026, skin barrier health is predicted to be the number one skincare trend — confirming a growing demand for skincare with genuine functional qualities over purely decorative ones.

Skin is a mirror of our condition - physical, psychological, and emotional. When it's out of balance, we see it and we feel it.

Peruda exists for all of us - in recovery, or simply living with skin that needs more care than conventional products can offer. Our gentle, natural formulations support the journey back to skin health, one application at a time.

With love, Monica x.
